The rural economy in China is in need of active and strong Farmer’s Professional Associations (FPAs) to help the rural population carry out a number of production and consumption-oriented activities needed for rapid growth. In this paper we found FPAs do exist in China; however, they are still in a fairly early stage of emergence. On the other hand, in recent years the pace of emergence has risen rapidly and appears to be accelerating. We also find the government clearly has a big influence on the emergence of FPAs—of all types. |
